AL-ALA (THE MOST HIGH, GLORY TO YOUR LORD IN THE HIGHEST)

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
[87:1]
YUSUFALI: Glorify the name of thy Guardian-Lord Most High,
PICKTHAL: Praise the name of thy Lord the Most High,
SHAKIR: lorify the name of your Lord, the Most High,
[87:2]
YUSUFALI: Who hath created, and further, given order and proportion;
PICKTHAL: Who createth, then disposeth;
SHAKIR: ho creates, then makes complete,
[87:3]
YUSUFALI: Who hath ordained laws. And granted guidance;
PICKTHAL: Who measureth, then guideth;
SHAKIR: nd Who makes (things) according to a measure, then guides (them to their goal),
[87:4]
YUSUFALI: And Who bringeth out the (green and luscious) pasture,
PICKTHAL: Who bringeth forth the pasturage,
SHAKIR: nd Who brings forth herbage,
[87:5]
YUSUFALI: And then doth make it (but) swarthy stubble.
PICKTHAL: Then turneth it to russet stubble.
SHAKIR: hen makes it dried up, dust-colored.
[87:6]
YUSUFALI: By degrees shall We teach thee to declare (the Message), so thou shalt not forget,
PICKTHAL: We shall make thee read (O Muhammad) so that thou shalt not forget
SHAKIR: e will make you recite so you shall not forget,
[87:7]
YUSUFALI: Except as Allah wills: For He knoweth what is manifest and what is hidden.
PICKTHAL: Save that which Allah willeth. Lo! He knoweth the disclosed and that which still is hidden;
SHAKIR: xcept what Allah pleases, surely He knows the manifest, and what is hidden.
[87:8]
YUSUFALI: And We will make it easy for thee (to follow) the simple (Path).
PICKTHAL: And We shall ease thy way unto the state of ease.
SHAKIR: nd We will make your way smooth to a state of ease.
[87:9]
YUSUFALI: Therefore give admonition in case the admonition profits (the hearer).
PICKTHAL: Therefor remind (men), for of use is the reminder.
SHAKIR: herefore do remind, surely reminding does profit.
[87:10]
YUSUFALI: The admonition will be received by those who fear (Allah):
PICKTHAL: He will heed who feareth,
SHAKIR: e who fears will mind,
[87:11]
YUSUFALI: But it will be avoided by those most unfortunate ones,
PICKTHAL: But the most hapless will flout it,
SHAKIR: nd the most unfortunate one will avoid it,
[87:12]
YUSUFALI: Who will enter the Great Fire,
PICKTHAL: He who will be flung to the great Fire
SHAKIR: ho shall enter the great fire;
[87:13]
YUSUFALI: In which they will then neither die nor live.
PICKTHAL: Wherein he will neither die nor live.
SHAKIR: hen therein he shall neither live nor die.
[87:14]
YUSUFALI: But those will prosper who purify themselves,
PICKTHAL: He is successful who groweth,
SHAKIR: e indeed shall be successful who purifies himself,
[87:15]
YUSUFALI: And glorify the name of their Guardian-Lord, and (lift their hearts) in prayer.
PICKTHAL: And remembereth the name of his Lord, so prayeth,
SHAKIR: nd magnifies the name of his Lord and prays.
[87:16]
YUSUFALI: Day (behold), ye prefer the life of this world;
PICKTHAL: But ye prefer the life of the world
SHAKIR: ay! you prefer the life of this world,
[87:17]
YUSUFALI: But the Hereafter is better and more enduring.
PICKTHAL: Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting.
SHAKIR: hile the hereafter is better and more lasting.
[87:18]
YUSUFALI: And this is in the Books of the earliest (Revelation),-
PICKTHAL: Lo! This is in the former scrolls.
SHAKIR: ost surely this is in the earlier scriptures,
[87:19]
YUSUFALI: The Books of Abraham and Moses.
PICKTHAL: The Books of Abraham and Moses.
SHAKIR: he scriptures of Ibrahim and Musa.
