The concept of God in Islam?
Muslims believe in the same God as the God of Noah, the God of Moses, the God of Abraham and the God of Jesus (peace be upon them all) as well as all other prophets of Islam. Key to the Islamic concept of God is that Muhammad's prophesy cleaned away all false associations people had made with God and established finally the pure religion of monotheism. What the last statement is saying is clear and very important. If you go to Christianity you will get a false concept of God. If you go to Judaism you will get a false concept of God. Likewise, if you go to any other religion, you will get a false concept of God.
In Islam, all attributes and names of God come from the Qur'an and sayings of Muhammad(pbuh).
The name of God is “Allah”. It is a word that has no plural and has no gender, unlike God which takes both plural and gender form. It is a uniquely specific word in the Arabic language. This is the essential name of God (Ism az-Zat), while the other terms to follow are called the attributes of the Divine Being (Asmaa as-Sifat).
“Allah’s are the Excellent Names. Invoke Him by them.” (Qur'an 7: 80)
The 99 Names of God
There are 99 Names of God (Asma-ullah) according to a saying of the prophet. These 99 names come from the Qur’an and Hadith (sayings of Muhammad).
Description of these 99 names are found here [99 names].
That is, muslims do not attribute God with any qualities, except what is found in the Qur'an and the saying of Muhammad(pbuh). This safe guards muslims from erring.
Theistic religions such as Christianity, Islam, and Judaism all have the monotheistic belief in a God, whereas a polytheistic religion such as Hinduism holds a belief in many gods.
However, when we compare the other monotheistic beliefs in God, we find that other religions have, in one way or another, distorted and nullified a pure and proper belief in Almighty God by neglecting His true teachings and mixing them with man-made ideas
The Jewish and Christian Scriptures abound with graphic examples of portraying God after man's own pattern:
IMPERFECT DESCRIPTIONS OF GOD
LIKE A MAN
(Genesis 11:5)
"And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded."
MOSES SEES GOD'S BACK PARTS?
(Exodus 33:23)
"And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen."
WRESTLES WITH JACOB
(Genesis 32:28)
"And He (God) said, thy name shall be called no more lacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and has prevailed."
LIKE ONE DRUNK
(Psalm 78:65)
"Then the Lord awakened as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine."
REGRETS MAKING MAN
(Genesis 6:6)
"And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart."
SMELLS SWEET FLAVOUR
(Genesis 8:21)
"And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart..."
A CROUCHING LION
(Numbers 24:9)
"He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up?"
DEVOURING FIRE
(Exodus 24:17)
"And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel."
RESTED AND REFRESHED
(Exodus 31:17)
" ... in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested AND WAS REFRESHED." 1
The whole history of the Qur’an is recorded and it is clear that no change, emendation, or corruption has overtaken it. The Qur’an, therefore, can be truly described as a muhaimin a reference and authentic book over the other scriptures, and a furqan a criterion.
I request you to make a comparative study between the Torah and the Qur’an. Then you can see the difference for yourself.
God Attributes in Bible vs Qur'an !
Islam is the only religion that never gives attributes of God’s might and glory to his creation, nor does it give the attributes of things created to the Creator. Allah is without any human needs like rest, sleep, hunger, etc.
